i drove home at 11ish last night, from a school dance. no one passed me on the road. not a single car. no one followed me, no one was in front of me for miles. 

i turned off the radio, and opened the windows. i thought maybe, even though i normally know it’s impossible, i thought something amazing would happen. for a couple minutes, i was a child again, not this façade of an adult, and i was no longer the composed, cool, calm, intelligent and collected person i was just moments earlier. i pulled over, and got out of the car. i got out of the car, and stood in the middle of the road, and just looked up at the heavens. with all my heart, i wished for something exceptional to happen. i wished for owls from harry potter, for a kick to wake me from inception, for the TARDIS to come spinning out of the sky. i wished for adventure and i wished for love. i waited for something magical to happen.

but nothing did. even so, as i climbed back in the car; as i kept driving, i felt more alive than i think i ever have in my life. it felt like i could have done anything i wanted in that moment, be whoever i wanted to be, went wherever i wanted to go. i felt so strong, and yet, so lonely. very alive, but very alone. and it dawned on me how vast this world is; how infinite. and in the chaos of all the feelings and emotions that were inside me, i saw things stand out with brilliant clarity: i must live…i must travel…i must love… 

because, really, i must move beyond this narrow perception of reality around me.
i must embrace the magic that is the world.
